[ she's about to finish his sentence for him when she hears something unpleasant. oh right, zombies are still a thing. it would appear that one of the ugly things had caught up to them. so with some quick thinking (or maybe not really thinking) she gives that zombie a flying kick.
it's knocked down for now, but it is enough to satisfy alice and she turns back to the both of them with a wide grin on her face. ]
Hey, hey! Did you see that? I just knocked one down!
[ she's been itching to kick one all this time, really. how dare they make them have to run! how dare they ruin this reunion! but during her moment of smug victory it would appear the zombie had already gotten up, and more were approaching behind it. she doesn't notice. ]
Even though he's nursing his pride along with his shoulder, Gilbert can't help but be happy for Oz. It must be a shock, but he knows that his master has to be glad for her presence. If only Gilbert had been better prepared and checked a damned clock the last time they'd walked past one. Made up time or not, he still should have realized that Oz would be back by now and planned accordingly.
Though of course they can't be allowed to be happy for too long. Alice may have taken care of the one zombie, but the rest are never far behind. Startling, Gilbert reaches out to grab hold of Oz, pick him up (he's still in shock okay he needs to be carried obviously) and starts running the opposite way down the hall. Better follow quickly, Alice.]
You stupid rabbit you should have known that it wouldn't be that simple to stop them!
( he can't help but grin at her pleasure; it's infectious, really, and of course she'd scarcely arrive here and be kicking down zombies like it's nothOH GOD THERE ARE MORE BEHIND HER. he opens his mouth to say something, but gil beats him to it, picking him up — and making him flail — and running. )
The boy may have grown, but Gilbert has no trouble tucking him under his arm around his middle and dashing down the hallway. There's a door up ahead that leads to the housing areas, they should be safe there, but -
Alas, zombies behind them and now zombies up ahead, dragging their guts across their path right in front of the door. Just their luck.]
with no time to give oz a proper answer, alice gets ready to charge forward as if she didn't learn from the first time. but then she remembers they can't unleash b.rabbit here. they can't unleash b.rabbit here. abort mission, abort! ]
[She is not seriously charging directly in is she?
Oh god she is...
Why can't there just be peace on the moon why is everything going wrong.]
D-DON'T JUST RUSH INTO THINGS WITHOUT THINKING!
[He hurries to her side and sets Oz down, both of his arms up to protect the two of them as he looks back and forth between the zombies on each side. They need a plan, a way to distract or at least fight them all back enough that they can get past them and through that door. But what...
that would be a roomba that shoots past them, a little cat riding atop it with a surprisingly serene air. it......seems to be enjoying itself, honestly. )
[ the whirring sound becomes more and more distant after sweeping past them, but even after seeing it with her own eyes all that was going through alice's head would be something like: what just happened?
there was a cat.
there was also something weird that it was riding on.
yeah, that's all shes got herself. clearly she's missed a lot that's happened here since her late arrival. buuut at least the zombies seemed a little distracted? ]
[ allowing herself to get pulled in they finally reach the safe room. aha i just made a l4d reference someone be proud of me. with a mental sigh of relief, alice takes a moment to relax because that was a pretty intense moment with all the zombies.
[He stumbles a little as he's dragged, but after a few awkward steps he finally snaps out of it. It's been a long time since he's seen Oz's cat, he'd nearly forgotten about it entirely, and seeing it traveling down the hallway at high speed on those roombas that Oz had brought back with him is the most terrifying thing he's seen today. And that includes watching zombies cook inside of ovens and seeing Break covered in zombie guts. Terrifying.
He's still breathing hard as Oz drags them both to safety, bent over with his hands against the wall so he can catch his breath and ease himself back out of his sudden round of kitten-panic. Wheeze...]
( oz takes a moment to relax himself, really, casts a look about for anyone else familiar — or any other zombies. he's been on the run from them since almost the moment he stepped off the transporter.
meanwhile, li jun on his roomba buzzes along past them, purring contentedly. )
[ okay, now that their much needed moment of recovery is done (well maybe not for gilbert), alice looks back at oz. it's felt like way too long for her, despite it being months for oz, and she stares long and hard at him thinking of what to say now that zombies weren't after them.
but then she realized something didn't feel right. what was it? is it his hair? his clothes? what's wrong? ]
...
[ nothing. you can almost see the question marks forming on top of her as she continues to stare intently at him.
[ she pushes her hair back, seemly satisfied that she can at least still kick oz down. an implied 'good' isn't said though, because she just kinda... sits herself down next to him. gilbert's hardships are completely ignored. ]
Now let's go stuff ourselves. You're tired too right?
( he pushes himself up onto his elbows, and finds himself laughing at that suggestion. it's so — perfectly alice, enough to make the homesickness rise back up if she weren't right here next to him. )
but she let's it slide, only because she knows he will feed her. that, and he hasn't seen her in a while. she was right, nothing has changed and she was grateful for it. ]
[Continue your happy reunion while Gilbert picks himself back up and dusts his jacket off, eyes pointed towards the direction that the cat has traveled to make certain that it hasn't turned back around. He's not going to be taken by surprise again!]
