Character HISTORY:

!!!! HISTORY CONTAINS SERIOUS SPOILERS FOR PH & I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO TURN BACK NOW IF YOU EVER PLAN TO READ IT !!!!!

I'd like to first say I WROTE ONE A LONG TIME AGO BUT THEN JACK'S A LIAR THAT LIL SHIT.

When Alice first opens her eyes in the darkness of the Abyss she remembers two things, her names and a misplaced conviction of being B. Rabbit. In the beginning of the series, Alice had lost her memories and spends her time waiting for the right person to come along. She knew her memories were somewhere above the surface, which would be the world we live in. However, as a “Chain” in order to unleash the powers that were sealed within her she needed to form a contract with another human. So in the dark she waits until finally Oz comes along. She hears the familiar sound of a music box and waits for the Baskervilles to cast him into the Abyss after a bit of a fight with them on the surface. Before we proceed, a Chain is a creature of the Abyss that forms contracts with humans and eats them to survive. Alice had always different and as Break had pointed out, besides her having a human form she doesn't have to eat, making her special from the other Chains. The reason for this was kept in the dark until her past is revealed.

During the short while they were in the Abyss the two finally form a contract in order to reach the surface. Yet, although they had made it back ten years had already passed since Oz was cast into the Abyss because time works differently there. From here on out, they both join Pandora in order to find out the truth of what happened one hundred years ago; a tragedy that swallowed a whole city into the Abyss. Oz is reunited with his old servant, Gilbert Nightray, and they set out on a journey for the truth, collecting Alice’s memories along the way. During this journey Alice has collected a few memories, most of them containing a man named Jack Vessalius. It would appear that this man is an important person to her as well as the Hero of the Tragedy of Sabrie. Holding onto this, we later find out it was all a lie and the memories that Alice held on dearly were not her memories at all.

The truth of a hundred years ago begins with a woman named Lacie Baskerville. As a young girl she had spoken to Jack on a whim, resulting in Jack searching for Lacie for many years. Lacie is a “child of misfortune” marked by her red eyes, and her fate is to be cast into the Abyss by her brother, Glen Baskerville. Although they had become close, Jack later learns of her death a week after the ceremony because Lacie decided not to tell him. Instead what appeared out of the Abyss a week later is a young girl named Alice. Having Levi impregnate her before she was cast into the Abyss, she had twins and Alice is Lacie’s daughter, cradled by the Abyss and brought into this world. One is cast into the surface while the other is embodied with the Will of the Abyss. They are both named Alice, so I will be calling the one in the abyss Alyss from now on.

From here on out it is Levi and Glen that took care of Alice. They recognized that there were two of them, and Alyss would sometimes borrow Alice's body to see the outside world. Their souls are connected between the two bodies so they can switch anytime they wish to. They gave her a plush doll shaped in a form of a doll which Alice named Oz. It would appear that the plush doll gained a conscious somewhere down the line due to Lacie. Oz would be able to see both the Abyss and the world through his form of a plush doll since he has two bodies, much like Alice, only he only has one 'soul' (does he even have a soul ow). After Lacie had died Oz fell into a deep slumber until he was given to Alice, who bites his plush cheek to wake him up. She cherished him and to her, Oz was her best friend. Alyss wasn't quite the same, and she seemed to lack the same enthusiasm Alice has, until Jack Vessilius came along. Alyss quickly realized that he was the person she was looking for, since she had a piece of Lacie's feelings she was able to savage from the darkness. She quickly turns to Oz and asks him to help her deliver these feelings to Lacie, and of course Oz agrees, grateful to Lacie for bring him to life so he may meet Alice. Sacrificing his body in the outside world he delivers Lacie's memories and feelings to Jack. Although this was a sweet sentiment it became a catalyst to Jack's determination to bring the world to Lacie. He wanted to sever the chains that held up the world and sink it into the darkness so that Lacie would not have to be lonely anymore.

Of course Alice wouldn't be the one to help Jack and instead Alyss would be the one who helps Jack, giving him the power that the plush doll could potentially possess, Oz. Soon Oz is turned into B. Rabbit and Jack forms a contract with him. Using his powers, Jack then severs the chains of the world in order to fulfill his wish. However, Glen Baskerville stops him by ordering his minions to kill everyone in the city and by summoning his chains. With his plan being stopped, Jack panicks and runs to Alyss for help. Because Alyss refused to tell Alice anything she pretends to be Alyss when Jack greets her and finds out what Jack had done. Refusing to let Alyss see Jack, in order to protect both Oz and Alyss she ends her life. The two souls meet in the middle of the Abyss and the World and Alyss tells Alice she doesn't know what she's doing anymore. She also asks Alice to get rid of her memories, because it was the confusing feelings she had for Jack that caused all this to happen. Alice agrees, using the lifeless body one last time she appears back in the surface and connets her soul to B. Rabbit. Stealing his power, she then uses this in order to attack Alyss' memories, only the Will of the Abyss would not let that wish come true. Forcing herself in she does manage to shatter Alyss' memories but loses her in the process as well. This is probably due to the fact that they have a strong bond, tied together by the Abyss.

This brings us back to the beginning, when Alice first wakes up with no memories of anything but her name and her stolen title of B. Rabbit. I'll stop here and would like to point out that while this is Alice's past, my canon point is before the pre-reveals so she wouldn't know about any of this and still believes that she is actually B. Rabbit.

Character PERSONALITY:

Upon first encounter, it is evident that Alice is a strong, confident young girl. Given the nickname of the Blood Stained Black Rabbit, she lives up to her name and is feared by both humans and Chains alike. It almost appears that nothing can possibly stand in her way. Putting on a king-like exterior to all those she meets, Alice is unafraid to show them who's the boss around here. Really, you can almost say that she has a bit of a superiority complex, and all those who she meets are considered beneath her. However, what has shaped her to become this way is largely due to her surroundings and the fact that she is amnesiac. With her memories scattered, Alice doesn't remember a thing about her past and her current personality is most likely shaped by her time in the Abyss. Of course there will be similarities, since personality isn't always shaped by environment, but the fact that everyone fears her gives an illusion that she is invincible. This is all the more reason for Alice to put up such a bossy attitude. The Abyss is a kill-or-be-killed place, and for someone as OP as Alice, it's a walk in the park.

To cover the basics, Alice is a pretty spoiled and demanding girl. If she wants something she expects to get it, even if it means using force. Full of herself, she has no problems with boasting about her superiority over others and has quickly given the title of 'man-servant', or simply 'servant', to Oz and Gilbert without considering that they might object. Her pure sense of confidence is her way of showing her true nature, but it has gotten her into trouble several times. When this happens there are usually two paths: 1) run or by some miraculous reason things work out 2) continue to boast at full power. She can appear naive and child-like, unsurprising considering she's only thirteen mentally and physically, and has no memories of her past. Because of this she often appears clueless about the world around her, and she had a tendency to wander off in the streets, curious about all the new things she could discover. Still, she can be eager to learn and can easily pick up on things along the way. The funny thing about Alice is that she has a tendency to boast -- She doesn't have the biggest vocabulary either, as words like 'naturally', 'love', and 'jealously' are foreign to her even if Sharon claimed that she was experiencing the latter. Instead, she always asks whether those words were something good to eat, or she would comment on them sounding like they would taste yummy.

Coming to this it's important to note that Alice is a glutton, and as a glutton it doesn't seem unreasonable for her to associate everything with food. However, sometimes you have to wonder just how a girl can think so much with their stomach. I'll like to note that she tried eating the roses when she first arrived on the 'surface' presumably because they smelled good. She has also stuffed a live geese head into her mouth after sniffing it. In most panels if Alice isn't doing anything, she always appears to be eating, with her favorite food being meat. She would often mention that she's hungry even if they were just in a tough situation, most likely because she doesn't want to think about it anymore. The answer to complicated situations is to stuff yourself!

Now, to dig deeper into the enigma that is Alice, one must look past first impressions and what's on the surface. All of which has been mentioned may make Alice appear like a bossy glutton, and while that is undeniable, there is something about Alice that makes her pure. Looking for her memories, she has never once backed down from her true goal. She says so herself that she will kick whatever gets in her way. She always looks forward, unrestricted by anyone or anything. When she's angry, she yells. When she's sad, she cries. And when she's happy she smiles. Alice is a strong girl, even if she has her own set of insecurities. Being in the Abyss for so long has made Alice an extremely lonely person and she is afraid of being left alone. To be more specific, her worst fear is to be left alone without a reason for existing in the world. As she searches for her memories, there's always a nudging fear that what she finds will be the opposite of what she wants. However, ironically, Oz is the one who taught her to move forward (even if he can be a totally hypocrite and not follow his own advice sometimes) and she clings onto that, so that not even her own fears can stop her.

In the beginning of the story, if anyone comes in to interrupt the balance in the group she found herself in, she immediately became insecure, running away despite not understanding what it is that she's running from. However, now Alice no longer has this fear. Even after Oz tells Alice that her memories were destroyed, Alice doesn't dwell on it. She says that there is nothing they could do about it then, but it hardly means that she has given up. Instead, she will just have to find another way to retrieve her memories by sticking with Oz. For Alice to be able to say such words isn't only by her own strength, but because Alice understands that Oz has accepted her for everything she is. She has a place to call her own.

Unsurprisingly, while Alice has always been strong in her own way, Oz has effected her greatly in the time they had spent together. She becomes softer with less 'tsun' in tsundere and can sometimes appear to be jealous when Oz spends too much time with other people (Honestly though, call her a tsundere after chapter 30 and I'll personally come tell you "You got that wrong!"). Oz is not only her contractor, but also the one that vowed to find Alice's memories and to be at Alice's side in their journey. This is why Alice is extremely possessive of him. Yet, she covers these feelings with insults, order, or physical abuse. Alice also calls Oz her "man-servant", as if he is her possession. She often uses this as an excuse to yell at him and would say things like, "As my man-servant, how dare you run off without my permission?!" Of course, we later find out that Oz is actually her plush rabbit so, this isn't exactly untrue. Oz is someone that is precious to her, and she will do whatever it takes to protect him with her own hands.

Besides giving Oz the title “man-servant”, Alice would often give nicknames to those around her. These nicknames are usually insults such as “seaweed head” for Gilbert or “stupid clown” for Break. On the outside Alice may yell at them, insult them, and call them bothersome but in the end she would definitely protect all of them. They are her friends and she cares for them even if she will never admit to it and she will throw a fit if they are ever taken away from her. Although, how much she cares about Break is highly debatable, concerning she seems rather keen on the idea of him dying. Things we will never know until Pandora Hearts ends, probably.

Now, while Alice may seem naive about many things but do not be fooled. When it comes down to it Alice can make many good points and give rather good advice. She tends to blurt out her thoughts freely, but in the end, they usually end up being meaningful. Or rather, she has a tendency to say something that makes little sense, but it is enough to lift someone's spirits. It was Alice that pulled Oz away from doubting himself when Break asked him, “Where are you?” She simply laughed and said that it should be obvious, Oz was right here. She did not seem to understand the deeper meaning behind Break’s words but it did not matter because her words made Oz feel better. Her instincts are also sharp, like an animal. She could easily tell what Oz is feeling by only a brief exchange of words and she always seems to know what to say to make Oz snap out of it without even trying. This has happened several times throughout canon, another notable scene being when Alice tossed a pebble at Oz because he was making a weird face or when Alice asked if Oz wanted to go back to rescue Sharon and Break. Alice just knows.

Overall, Alice is a bright, cheerful girl who never hides her feelings unless it is something she doesn't really understand. While she's far from perfect (that's a lie i think she's perfect), she expresses her feelings without any restrictions and it is because of this that she became Oz’s “sun”. Oz says that Alice is as important to him as the sun, and that he admires her because she isn't afraid to show what she’s feelings and has nothing to hide. This purity is exactly what makes Alice who she is.

Chosen WEAPON:

SPOILERS: Due to new reveals in canon that shows that her B.Rabbit powers aren't actually hers to begin with, giving her her scythe may cause too much confusion. So instead she will be given boots as a weapon! The boots will start out rather heavy at first so it's harder for her to use, but over time it will be easier for her to lift her legs and give that powerful kick. These will be her own boots! She has these cute white boots that she's had ever since the day she became a Chain. She wouldn't want anything in the armory because she wouldn't be interested in actually using a weapon she could wave around. Instead she believes in her own strength! Kicking will indeed be her main tactic, and over time as it evolves the boots will become lighter and give her more power in her kick. At first they will be more like regular boots, and her kicks won't mean all that much even if she's a strong girl. Over time, instead her kicks will be given an extra boost so that even if she is using the same force the kick will be stronger! They will also allow her to jump a little higher (because of the extra boost) over time.
